Getting closer to my first app posting.

Go Back To SkyRooster.com

As you can see from the above link I have my website up and running.  I have my app ready for upload.  I'm now a registered Apple Developer (woot woot).  Apple won't post my app until I have a GST #.  I can't get that until I have a biz #.  I can't get that until my home occ approval from the town of Banff goes through.  The home occ approval process will be completed this Wed.  My biz is registered, but I can't get my license (biz #) until the home occ goes through.  The biz application has already been submitted.

In the meantime, I'm starting on the next app today.

Getting closer to finishing my first app.

So I have my first app almost completed.  It's written in HTML5/css/JavaScript.  Now it has to be converted to something that Apple will understand.  I'm using a company called PhoneGap by Cordova to make this conversion for me.  I registered as an Apple developer yesterday.  Still waiting on the final docs from the town re: biz license and home occ. permit.

If there's anyone who would like to help support the development of this app, please visit the following link:

Called Away, But Back Now

It's been a bit since my last posting, but it's been a busy week.  I was called away with little notice.  Canadian Mountain Holidays (CMH) needed a chef to fill in for a heliskiing retreat.  The long days (before 6AM to after 10PM) didn't allow for me to do anything else in regards to my app development or blog updates.  It was a good experience overall, but I had to decline the request for more postings in order to continue my work here.

In the past week however, I did manage to get a favorable response from the Town of Banff on my request for a home occupation permit.  They just need to advertise it in the local paper for a couple of weeks and contact the neighbours to see if anyone has a problem with my venture.  I have officially registered my business as SkyRooster.  I have submitted my request for a business license with the Town.  Things seem to be going well so far.

I'm making some headway in the work environment department as well.  I have dug two non-functioning laptops out of storage and have received an offer to have both of them fixed for "free".  The only cost is that the person who's fixing them will get to keep one.  Fingers crossed for his success.

Today I'm working from the office at my former employer.  Thank you to Coyotes Southwestern Grill!  Yesterday I filled out some forms for 2 crowdsourced funding sites. 1. indiegogo.com and 2. ulule.com .  We'll have to wait to see how that goes (fingers crossed).  Today I applied for Google Adsense for this blog.  I'll apologize in advance for the ads.  I chose the least invasive ad display options.  If it makes my page look cluttered I'll have them removed.  It'll be a couple of days before the ads show up.  So we'll have to wait to see how that goes as well.  I'll try to get some pics up soon as well.  Until then back to working on my first app!

Mana from the sky.

I currently am using the family computer in the kitchen at our house to do most of my work .  One of my first goals is to create an office space.  One of my children is in school full time, but his younger brother is in half day kindergarten which means he's home at 11:30.  I'm finding it difficult to remain focused in the common area of our home.  I have some savings, but it looks like I'll have to find a part time job to get me through some of the initial costs of my first app.  I have an additional goal to find funding for a laptop and to create the space I need to work more efficiently.  I love my boys and find it hard to ignore them when they want to show me how high they can jump.

I would like to avoid the option of finding part time work as this will detract from my end goal of supporting our family through my work as a mobile app developer using HTML5.  I'm a man on a mission and would like to remain focused on the task at hand.  I have thus, decided to seek out crowdsource funding.  I been to the Kickstarter.com site, but they only allow funding for projects in the U.S. and the U.K..  Today I'll try to find some sites that are open to Canadian residents.  Fingers crossed.

My first post

As the title suggests this is my first post. This blog promises an interesting mix from the kitchen to the web. I'm 38 yrs old, married with 2 kids. Being a chef has been great for me for the past 20 yrs, but having children entering the school system has changed my priorities. I need weekends, evenings and holidays at home now to spend with my children. Adjusting to a quick career change. This blog will document that process.
